Her son Jason was playing with his step-brother, step-sister and dog outside the family home, near the intersection of Connelly Drive and Rathkeale Boulevard, when the incident happened. He was hit when crossing the road in an attempt to catch their dog Bruno. His 14-year-old step-sister Kerri-Anne saved him from certain death.

Cosmetic Surgery: What To Know Beforehand

San Diego breast augmentation

You’ve seen it advertised in newspapers, featured on television programs, apparent in the faces of celebrities – cosmetic surgery. It’s guaranteed to shave decades off your appearance, right? In some cases, maybe. Cosmetic surgery offers the potential to improve many areas of the body. But as with any surgery, top San Diego cosmetic surgeons remind patients that cosmetic surgery also involves certain risks and limitations.

Plastic surgery aims to change your appearance by altering parts of your body that function normally but whose appearance makes you unhappy. This differs from reconstructive surgery, in which a San Diego plastic surgeon can perform surgical procedures with the goal of improving the appearance and function of body parts affected by congenital defects, injuries and diseases such as cancer. Cosmetic surgery offers choices for making changes in your physical appearance. It reshapes normal body structures, changes appearance and, often, improves self-esteem. If you’re dissatisfied with your appearance, you may be interested in cosmetic surgery not only to look better, but also to feel better. Despite possible risks, and though each person’s experience is unique, both improvements may be likely after cosmetic surgery.

No studies have conclusively proved that most people can expect to enjoy dramatic improvements in their psychological well-being, however. If you’re struggling with depression, for example, cosmetic surgery such as a San Diego breast augmentation procedure is unlikely to relieve it.

When deciding for or against cosmetic surgery, consider the following:

  • Your expectations. Anticipate improvement, not perfection. If you expect cosmetic surgery to turn you into a movie star, you’re bound to be disappointed. Also don’t count on surgery to save a rocky relationship, gain a promotion or improve your social life.
  • Time and expense. Cosmetic surgery isn’t covered by most health insurance. The costs vary depending on the procedure performed and may range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. The procedures and your recovery also take time. This varies depending on the procedure. Returning to work may take from one day to several weeks.
  • Potential risks. You must be comfortable with the fact that cosmetic surgery, like any surgery, can be a risk to your health and that the results may not be what you anticipate.
  • Physical and psychological changes. Understand the physical effects that may be part of the healing time as well as how the surgery may affect aspects of your personal and professional life.

While dissatisfaction with results always remains a possibility, the closer you work with your surgeon to establish specific, measurable and achievable goals before surgery, the more likely you are to be satisfied with the results. BREAST AUGMENTATION BECOMES NO. 1 COSMETIC SURGERY PROCEDURE IN UNITED STATES

April 10th, 2009 by drsherman

PRWeb reports that for the first time in twelve years, breast augmentation has surpassed liposuction to become the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the US. According to new statistics by The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 355,000 breast augmentation surgeries were performed last year; this new report coincides with the two-year anniversary of a landmark decision from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration allowing doctors to use silicone breast implants in breast surgery procedures.

After years of intensive study and clinical trials, the organization decided in 2006 to approve the use of the implants in breast augmentation patients over the age of 22, and breast reconstruction patients of any age. And though there is no greater risk to women with silicone implants than there is with saline implants, a well-recognized San Diego plastic surgeon we spoke with tells us that there are certain differences to be mindful of.

These chief differences are the appearance and feel of the implant, and what happens if the implant ruptures. With saline implants, a rupture or leak in the implant is easily detectable as the breast takes on a deflated appearance. Since silicone breast implants use a viscous, silicone gel as their main component, a leak may be harder to detect. Many doctors in California, however, say silicone breast implants are extremely durable, and that one of the most positive aspects of the FDA’s decision is that it gives patients like those at their San Diego breast augmentation practices a broader range of options to meet their own specific needs.

For many women in San Diego breast implants made of silicone are regarded more favorably than their saline counterparts because silicone is said to look and feel more natural, and are less prone to rippling. The choice between silicone and saline implants is ultimately up to the individual, and the patient is strongly advised to consider their personal and unique cosmetic needs. Our resident San Diego cosmetic surgeon reminds us that the most important thing for patients to do before undergoing breast enlargement is to educate themselves about the procedure, and be sure to have an understanding about both types of implants.

My surgeon said they make me no more vulnerable than any woman. They are not enormous and they are gel so won’t burst”, as quoted from a British news agency. Sarah had her breast augmentation surgery performed 6 years ago.

Whether we agree or not with the Amateur Boxing Association’s decision on terms of safety or personal liberty, plastic surgery has always been associated with a wide range of moral, technological, and health considerations that require the expertise of qualified, experienced professionals for conscientious surgery planning. Leading Factors for Sagging Breasts

December 26th, 2008 by drsherman

A recent study shows that breast feeding is not the most significant cause of breast ptosis, or sagging breasts. The study shows that age, body mass index (BMI), and smoking are more relevant risk factors, in spite of common beliefs that breastfeeding is the main cause.

A common complaint of postpartum San Diego women, drooping breasts are often the main target for plastic surgery. San Diego breast enhancement can help reverse the signs of breast ptosis and reshape the breasts to be fuller and more aesthetically pleasing. Some women opt not to breastfeed after pregnancy due to the thought that it will adversely affect the appearance of the breasts. The study however, serves to correct this common misconception.

The study was published in the September/October 2008 issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and reviewed a number of pre breast surgery patients who had a history of at least one pregnancy. The degree of their breast ptosis was analyzed in correlation to factors including age, number of pregnancies, history of breastfeeding, duration of breastfeeding, BMI, pre-pregnancy cup size, history of smoking, and amount of weight gain during the pregnancy.

The results showed that the greater the age, higher BMI, greater number of pregnancies, larger pre-pregnancy bra cup size, and history of smoking were all very significant factors in the degree of breast ptosis, while breastfeeding, even duration of breastfeeding was not as relevant. So it seems that those nonsmoking post pregnancy women who are younger, of a decent weight, and smaller cup size need not worry as much about breastfeeding in regards to the development of sagging breasts. Others may consider San Diego breast lift surgery if they are dissatisfied with the look of their breasts.
